Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin: 60 Rococo Paintings

Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin was a French painter who is considered one of the masters of the Rococo period. He is best known for his still lifes and genre paintings, which often depicted everyday scenes of domestic life.

Chardin was born in Paris in 1699. He studied painting under Jean-Baptiste Greuze and Nicolas Largillierre. In 1728, he was admitted to the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. Chardin's early work was influenced by the Dutch and Flemish masters, but he soon developed his own unique style.

Chardin's paintings are characterized by their realism, simplicity, and attention to detail. He often depicted scenes of everyday life, such as women cooking, children playing, and people reading. Chardin was a highly successful painter during his lifetime. He was elected to the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1743 and was awarded the Order of Saint Michel in 1759. Chardin died in Paris in 1779. He is buried in the Church of Saint-Roch. Chardin's work continues to be admired and collected today.
